Attendance

Need to Report an Absence?

If your child is unwell and unable to attend school, you must report their absence every day before 8:00am using the Arbor app.

Reporting an Absence

To report your child's absence using Arbor:

  1. Open the Arbor app.
  2. Tap the menu (three lines) in the top left-hand corner.
  3. Select Attendance.
  4. Choose Summary.
  5. Tap Log Absence in the top right-hand corner.

Provide Specific Details

Please provide specific details about your child's illness.

Avoid using general descriptions such as:

  • "Sick"
  • "Not well"

Instead, tell us what symptoms your child has (for example: temperature, vomiting, diarrhoea, sore throat, or chickenpox).

Important

If an absence is not reported before 8:00am, or sufficient information about your child's illness is not provided, the absence may be recorded as unauthorised.

Nursery to Year 2

Children with:

  • Temperature
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea

Should remain at home for 48 hours after their last episode and only return when they are symptom-free.

Years 3 to 6

Children with:

  • Temperature
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea

Should remain at home for 24 hours after their last episode and only return when they are symptom-free.

Lateness

School begins at 8:30am.

Children should be seated in their classroom before registration starts at 8:40am.

If your child arrives at 8:40am or later, you must sign them in at the school office so we know they have arrived safely.

Children collected late may incur a £10 late collection fee.

Attendance Monitoring

If your child's attendance falls below the expected level, evidence may be requested to support future absences.

Your child may also be placed on a Watch List, which is monitored by the Education Welfare Officer from Barnet.

Absence Request

Holidays and family trips must not be taken during term time.

Leave of absence will only be considered in exceptional circumstances.

Parents should arrange holidays during the official school holiday periods.

Unauthorised absences may result in fixed penalty notices.

Current fines start from:

  • £80 per parent, per child
  • Increasing to £160 per parent, per child if not paid within 21 days.

School Policy

Medical evidence must be provided for absences that are:

  • 3 days before a school holiday, or
  • Immediately after a school holiday.

ABSENCE REQUEST FORM

The school cannot authorise holidays during term time except in extreme circumstances. Any such requests must be supported by appropriate evidence and are only considered for a maximum of one or two days. Requests for longer periods will not be authorised.

  •  Any leave taken without prior authorisation from the school will be recorded as unauthorised
  •  Unauthorised absences may result in a Fixed Penalty Notice (fine).
  • Repeated or extended absences may also result in your child being placed on the school's attendance watch list if their attendance drops.

Please ensure the form is fully completed with all relevant details and supporting documents (e.g. medical letters, wedding invitations, travel confirmations).

Once submitted, your request will be reviewed by the school and a decision will be communicated to you by email. Please allow up to 5 working days for a response.
