Year 5

Welcome to Year 5!

Look at what we have been doing...

We had a brilliant time at the pop up museum!

Healthy Snack: All children must bring in a healthy snack, which is eaten mid-morning.  This can also be a piece of fruit, a cereal bar, fruit juice or vegetables (carrots, cucumber etc).  Please do not send your child in with chocolates, crisps or biscuits. We also have Breakfast and Snack Club, which opens at 8:30am in the Small Hall.


PE KitChildren are to come to school, dressed in P.E. kit every Monday which is our day at the Gold Star Centre.  No jewellery except small studs and hair to be tied back (girls).


Swimming KitThis will be needed every Thursday.  We will inform you when there is no swimming.


Homework: Homework for Literacy and Maths will be given out on a Thursday, for the children to bring back to school the following Tuesday.  The children will be given new spellings every Monday and they will be tested on Friday.  Your child needs to bring their spelling book and spelling practise sheet back on Thursday.  Please practise their words with them EVERYDAY.


Book bags / Reading Books:  Please ensure that book bags are brought in everyday.  Guided Reading is every Thursday, however their guided reading activity book and reading book must be returned on Wednesday.  REMEMBER CHAMPION READERS EVERY MONDAY!

Library Books: Both Year 5 classes have Library on Tuesday

Science – Earth and Space, Forces, Cycle of Life, Reproduction of plants and animals, Materials, Mixing and separating

History – Anglo Saxons, Gun Powder Plot, The Great Fire of London, Victorians and World War II

Geography – Water/Rivers, Where would you build a city?


Ways to help your child at home:

Maths – Adding up small amounts of money, quick mental maths questions (+ - x ÷), Place value practise, telling the time, learning and practising their timetables and division.  Online maths games (Mathletics).

Literacy – Reading to and with your child, writing short stories together and checking for punctuation and grammar errors, practising spellings and handwriting.  Online literacy games.
